Amazon has once again made waves in the tech world by unveiling New Fire TV Sticks at a grand event.
The tech giant introduced two new models: the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K and the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
The Amazon Firestick has become the most popular streaming device on the market due to its low price point, ease of use, and jailbreaking abilities.
A few days ago I posted a YouTube video about this announcement and what to expect.
Both devices promise enhanced performance and WiFi capabilities, but how do they stack up against their predecessors? Let’s dive in.
Amazon Announces New Firesticks
The 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K
- Performance Boost: Powered by a MediaTek MT8696D quad-core 1.7GHz CPU and an IMG PowerVR GE9215 650MHz GPU, Amazon claims a nearly 30% performance improvement over the previous model.
- RAM Upgrade: The new model boasts 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a step up from the 1.5GB in the older version.
- WiFi 6: The addition of 802.11ax WiFi 6 ensures a more robust and faster internet connection than the 802.11ac WiFi 5 in the previous model.
- Video Capabilities: The new Fire TV Stick 4K retains the video capabilities of its predecessor, supporting 4K @ 60fps video playback and top HDR formats. A new addition is the support for AV1 video decoding.
However, Amazon missed a trick by not increasing the internal storage.
The device still offers only 8GB, a common complaint among Fire TV users.

- WiFi 6E: An upgrade from the previous model’s WiFi 6.
- Double the Storage: Addressing a common grievance, Amazon has doubled the internal storage to 16GB, aligning it with the 3rd-gen Fire TV Cube.
- Video and HDR: Like its sibling, the 4K Max supports all top 4K video formats and HDR versions.

Fire TV Stick Software and Extras
Both devices will ship with Fire OS 8, based on Android 11.
This is a significant upgrade from the outgoing models, which ran on older versions of Android.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max gets an edge with the “enhanced” Fire TV Alexa remote, which was previously exclusive to Fire TV Smart TVs.
This remote offers additional functionalities like channel up/down buttons, a settings button, and a recent button for quick access to recently opened apps and content.
Exclusive to the 4K Max is the Fire TV Ambient Experience, turning your TV into a visual delight by displaying art, photos, and widgets like news and weather.
This feature was previously limited to Amazon’s Omni QLED Series Fire TVs.
Pricing and Availability
The 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K is priced at $49.99, while the 4K Max comes in at $59.99, a slight increase from its predecessor.
Both are available for pre-order and will hit the shelves in October. A cherry on top? A free 6-month subscription to MGM+ with every purchase.

New Amazon Firesticks – Final Thoughts
Amazon’s new Fire TV Sticks promise a lot, especially in terms of performance and WiFi capabilities.
While the unchanged storage in the 4K model is a letdown, the 4K Max seems to address most user concerns.
With competitive pricing and the latest software, these devices are set to be a hit among streaming enthusiasts.
Whether you are upgrading or buying for the first time, Amazon’s latest offerings seem worth the investment.

Correct for the 2nd Gen Fire TV Stick 4K Max. As seen in this article “Addressing a common grievance, Amazon has doubled the internal storage to 16GB, aligning it with the 3rd-gen Fire TV Cube.”
It would be a much better device if the storage capacity would be up graded.
I’ll wait till they decide to up grade the storage. So at this time, To me not worth the money.
Hi Bruce, the new 2nd Gen Fire TV Stick 4K Max will have 16GB of internal storage. That is double the storage compared to previous models.
